A downloadable tool

CitePair is a local browser utility for mechanically cross-checking author-year citations against a reference list before submission or publication.

It helps catch two simple but easy-to-miss problems:

- A citation appears in the manuscript but has no matching reference entry

- A reference entry exists but is never cited in the manuscript

Features:

- Detect common narrative citations such as Smith (2024)

- Detect parenthetical citations such as (Smith, 2024)

- Split semicolon-separated multi-citations

- Missing-reference detection

- Uncited-reference detection

- Duplicate author-year warnings

- Possible year-typo hints when the same author exists under another year

- CSV / TXT reports

- English / Japanese UI

Useful for:

- Essays

- Theses and dissertations

- Research manuscripts

- Technical writing

- Long-form articles

- Reference-list cleanup

Privacy & safety:

- Runs entirely locally

- No manuscript uploads

- No reference-list uploads

- No external API

- Does not modify source files

- No installation required

Scope and limitations:

- Designed for author-year citation styles

- Numbered citations such as [1] are not checked

- Footnote citation systems are not checked

- CitePair does not verify whether a source actually exists

- It does not certify APA/Harvard formatting

- It does not judge whether a cited source supports a claim

CitePair is a deterministic consistency checker, not a replacement for final proofreading or a citation manager.
